Solar export charges to begin from 2025

The AEMC has introduced new rules that will allow electricity companies to charge rooftop solar owners for exporting power to grid.

AEMC chief executive Benn Barr said households selling their excess power back into the grid are putting increasingly unmanageable strain on a system that was not set up to be two-way.

Network Companies will not be able to impose flat fees, and charges will only be imposed when there is congestion on the grid.

The new charges are expected to commence in July 2025.
