The Victorian Government has announced that, with a few minor exceptions, it will ban private electricity networks in new apartment blocks from January 2023. This follows the findings of the Expert Panel review.
Embedded networks are commonly used to supply electricity to customers in buildings such as apartment blocks, retirement villages, social housing and caravan parks. The aim is to give all electricity customers access to competition, and hopefully better pricing.
It is anticipated that existing embedded networks will be transitioned to an arrangement whereby customers also have access to competition.
